
Marc Miralta is the most versatile drummer of Spain and the one with greatest international projection.
Marc Miralta was born in Barcelona on November 16, 1966, Marc Miralta started playing drums at the age of 7 and began taking lessons at 11. He also plays percussion instruments, like vibraphone,
marimba and Indian tabla. He studied at the Escola de Música Zeleste de Barcelona (CDMBR) from 1980 to 1984; at Conservatori Superior Municipal de Música de Barcelona from 1982 to 1989; at Taller de Músics de Barcelona from 1984 to 1990 and at Berklee Collage of Music, Boston, from 1990 to 1993.
He has performed with musicians like Pat Metheny, gary Burton, Steve Lacy, Paquito D’Rivera, Tete Montoliu, Art Farmer, Geworge Garzone, Joshua Redman and Mark Turner in various countries, like Spain, USA, Canada, Australia, Mexico, Argentina, France, Italy, Bulgaria, Austria, Germany, Hungary, Holland, Portugal, Slovenia, Finland, Israel, etc. He has played classical music with the European Community Youth Orchestra, conducted by Claudio Abbado, and music for contemporary dance and for theatre performances.
He has recorded over 30 cds with a variety of artists in Spain, Canada and USA. In 1985 he won the Best Instrumentalist Award, and Best band with 2x2 Quartet at Manresa Jazz Festival (Barcelona). In 1986 he was awarded the second prize with Roda de saxos at the International Jazz Festival of San Sebastián. In 1998 he won second prize with Iñaki Salvador trio at the Jazz Competition in Getxo (Bilbao). In 1991 was given the Best Percussion Performer award at Berklee College of Music, and in 1992 the Most active Performer Award, at the same college.
