Eva Cortés, a young singer-songwriter originally from Honduras but raised in Seville, Spain, will edit her third album entitled “El Mar de Mi Vida” (The Sea of My Life)” on the 6th of April. After the release of her first albums “Sola Contigo (Alone with You) and “Como Agua Entre los Dedos (Like Water through Fingers)”, Eva Cortés has staked a place, with her own personal jazz fusion, amongst the most promising and interesting talents in the jazz scene in Spanish. “El Mar de Mi Vida” brings together twelve songs that are the ultimate expression of cultural mixes. Although jazzier than ever, she has not forgotten her Latin and Blues roots or her Flamenco influences. Eva has always known how to surround herself with first class musicians (as prestigious as Jerry González, Pepe Rivero and Nono Garcia amongst others) and “El Mar de Mi Vida” is no exception. Cortés relies again on the collaboration of Cuban musicians Bobby Martinez and Manuel Machado as well as one of the world’s great percussionists, Piraña, or the outstanding mouth organ player Antonio Serrano (the latter two currently work with Paco de Lucia). This time she has teamed up also with the flamenco great, Miguel Poveda, for her cover of “C’ést si Bon”, Perico Sambeat, Lew Soloff (considered one of the great trumpeters of recent times and whose collaborations include amongst others Marianne Faithfull and Frank Sinatra), Santiago Cañadada, Remy Decormeille, Georvis Pico, the bass player of the moment Hadrien Feraud and the English drummer Mark Mondesir (both of whom work with John McLaughlin). All of this combines to make “El Mar de Mi Vida” a magnificent album in which experience brings surprising subtleties without surrendering the freshness and spontaneity of previous works. The compositions grow and the lyrics are enriched by life’s experiences and commitments; old terrain is revisited with a sense of renewal. The entire work breathes a musical identity that is unmistakeable.
